Our Mission

De-Prompted was started by an ex-Reedsy Prompts judge who was dissatisfied with the way the contest was handled. Going behind the scenes, we discovered that the system over at Reedsy Prompts is deeply flawed, and that many entries are dismissed from the competition without being read. We could go on and on about how much we disapprove of their system, but De-Promoted is much more about positivity: rescuing wonderfully written stories from Reedsy Prompts and publishing them in our literary magazine.

Many talented writers have lost confidence in their own abilities because of the lack of recognition from Reedsy. We at De-Prompted Literary Magazine aim to restore that confidence and allow brilliant stories to shine.

What are we looking for?

There is only one prerequisite for submitting to us: your story must be currently available to view on Reedsy Prompts, and it must have been submitted to a contest. But it must not have shortlisted or won - we are looking for the very best unrecognised entries. Your story can be any genre, any theme, just as long as it was originally submitted to the Reedsy Prompts contest. If your story is accepted by us, we will ask you to remove it from Reedsy so that we can publish it in our magazine.

De-Prompted guarantees that all submissions will be read, and that they will be read anonymously. We will only ask you to verify that your story is on Reedsy after it has been accepted for publication.

Where will De-Prompted be available to read?

The magazine will be available to read on our website in digital form. We are also currently exploring options for a print version.

Is there a submission fee?

Regular submissions will be free of charge. However, we would also like to offer a feedback service, where you can choose to pay £5 and receive feedback on your entry. This will not affect its chances for being accepted, and is open to any submission.

The first round of submissions for De-Prompted will open soon. In the meantime, help us spread the word!
